FAQ

General Inquiries

Do I need dance shoes to dance?

Not necessarily. If you want to try out dancing you can join in your regular shoes, no problem. The longer you dance, the more you’ll probably want to invest in dance shoes, because they will make it easier to dance on the floors we dance on. On top of that, some of our class locations require you not to use shoes that leave black marks.

What level am I at?

Registering and don’t know what level you have to sign up for? Find organizers at one of our events and ask them for help. They will be able to link you to teachers, if they are available, who can ascertain your level. Usually during registration periods there will be a level check.

Is there a social tonight?

Check the main page or events page of our website for upcoming events. Other than that our events should be listed on lindyhop.nl and on Facebook through Facebook events.

Do I need to come or sign up with a partner?

Not at all! During workshops and classes we regularly rotate partners. However, to keep proper balance during class registration we do give priority to people signing up with a partner, but you are also allowed to sign up without a partner.

Classes & Lessons

Can I try out dancing before I join in a lesson?

Absolutely! We have a social dance, which we call our HopSpot, every Wednesday (though please check the events on the main page, to make sure when and where). At our HopSpots we give beginner drop-in workshops from 19:40 – 20:30. These are usually Lindy Hop workshops, but sometimes they can be Solo Jazz, Blues, Collegiate Shag or Balboa. If you want to try out a specific dance style before joining, please watch out for these days, but be aware that we might not have one before the next registration date.

Can I start taking lessons when the block has already started?

Unfortunately you can’t drop into classes that are already ongoing. All our classes have a balanced follower and leader count and every lesson is usually created to work off of the previous lesson. If you want to have a feel for what kind of things we teach and how we teach it, we advise you to visit the drop-in workshops at our events. Or keep an eye out for when our registrations open again.

When does the next block of classes start?

We usually have three blocks of 10 to 12 classes each during a year, with a summer break.

  • January – March
  • April – June
  • September – December

Health & Safety

I have some cold symptoms, should I go to class/events?

We ask you to please refrain from coming to our events or classes if you have cold or flu-like symptoms. Swing dancing will mean you will touch and breathe on a lot of other people making anything contagious spread like wildfire. As always, frequently washing your hands also helps to prevent the spread of viruses.

Absolutely, please e-mail info@swinginutrecht.nl with all the relevant information you can supply. For example, group size, date, what kind of occasion, or anything else that you require. We will connect you with the right teachers for the job.
